July 28th – Vocalising Celebrations

1999   Impressed mum as I came into her room this morning and said “can I have” but needed help with the “a drink please” bit.  Mum thought I was very clever and said it was far nicer than the “dink” I usually holler in her ear.  That’s as may be, but it’s much harder work if you ask me.  I mean, why use all those words when you can get the same result just using one?  Adults!  I’ll never understand them.  Found the camera on the lounge floor this morning and   took several photos of the telly, the carpet, the curtain, my foot etc.  Should look good when the films developed (nice surprise for mum anyhow). Went to Edons and then Nanny’s today.  The sun was shining and I played in the garden all day. Nanny gave me a new shirt from Uncle Teddy – a Southend United one!   I was very tired tonight which resulted in tantrums; largely because mummy pulled the plug out of the bath just because I slapped her!  I was back home and in bed by seven and asleep two minutes later.

2019: Long drive back from Wales to Beccles today, made worse by an hour and a half jam on the A14. Legs are pretty wobbly from yesterdays run but I’m happy I did the run and am also celebrating one year with Zof today! She has stuck by me (even holding my hand in hospital after surgery and looking after me when I was discharged at the beginning of July when we were just friends). She has inspired me, encouraged me, helped me,  filled me with confidence and let me be me. Looking forwards to many more years together.

March 16th – Bed Time Stories in our New Home

1999:  I waved mum off from the settee at Edons (I forgot yesterday -oops!). I was a good boy today, but still in my showing off mood a bit when mum came to collect me this evening.  I soon calmed down, and put my shoes on nicely when mum said about going out to play in the garden again when we got home.  We even put my slide together.  I can walk up it both ways with no help at all.  I thought the rabbit run was a great climbing frame too, but mum didn’t seem too impressed when I headed towards it!  I then decided to put my bike over the slide. Mum decided to take a photo, but I wasn’t very amused because the bike was stuck and I got extremely frustrated trying to get it down, and mum had photographic evidence.  Or does she?  Mum – you’re supposed to put film in the camera first!!!  Anyway, I sorted it in the end, without help, which I most definitely do not need thank you very much.  Things went fairly well tonight, until it came to cleaning my teeth – we both wanted to do it.  Well they are my teeth after all, and if I want to just suck the toothpaste off the brush then I don’t see the problem.  Mummy won in the end.  I told mum my own bedtime stories tonight – how I was sick today when I coughed in Edons car.  ‘I had to shout Edon’ for her to stop’. It’s the first mum’s heard of this, but she seems amused.  Then I told her how I’d bumped my head and chin on the ceiling, the wardrobe and the wall!

2019: Is it really here? I met mum in the Kings Head at Beccles – she stopped drinking 6 weeks ago but had a glass of wine in her hand.  Luckily she was still able to read the tenancy and sign the guarantor side of things, with strict instructions that our rent is our priority as she does not want to lose her house.  We unloaded, drove back to mums, reloaded and again unloaded after shopping in B&M for food and pillows etc. Mum is wondering when it really does start to get cheaper …….  Exhausting but wonderful day and tonight Zof and I stayed in our new home. No bedtime stories needed zzzzz

March 6th – Modelling with Blond Highlights

1999:  –  Mum it’s Saturday – a busy day none the less! We went to Chelmsford to get my 3rd ‘watch me grow’ photo taken,. Mum put my leather waistcoat on for this occasion and I proudly told everyone I was ‘mart’.  I pulled my usual stern face during the sitting with the odd smile here and there.  I actually thought it far more fun to very slowly dribble out the corner of my mouth, putting more force on it just as the man took the photo!  Mum didn’t seem too impressed though.  We walked through the high street to the swimming pool only to find it does not open until midday.  Doesn’t anybody realise today is Saturday?  People want to swim.  We walked back to the car and on the way mum bought me a packet of milk buttons to munch on in the buggy and we popped into Zanzibar to buy some tapers and incense sticks. We then made a quick exit when mum noticed a lady walking around with a chocolate button wrapper stuck to her trousers! We eventually left town and got stuck at the traffic lights.  Hold up mum, the lights are green, the right hand lanes moving but we’re at a standstill in the left.  Mum.  MUM. Those cars are parked!  How embarrassing.  Everyone behind was very patient. Well she has died her hair blonde……….

2019: My mums blonde moments are endless. There really wasn’t any hope for me. Having said that I’m definitely the more sensible one and actually have some common sense. But then again mum did remember to leave me a list of jobs to do today! Shopping and cooking were the highlights.
