1999: Woke up feeling a bit grouchy and defiant with my favourite word of the day being “no”. It seems to wind mum up nicely even if I don’t actually manage to get my own way. Didn’t want to go to Edons but was okay once we’d established the fact that I was staying and mum was definitely going. After a bad start I thought it would be good to reflect on my positive points – I can count from 1 -10, am now dry and clean most days and I can feed the fish with consideration; saying “mind your head” as I tip the food in.
2019: Late shift today and for once, I was glad to be in an inside job with air conditioning, as it was sweltering outside and forecast to get hotter midweek. I’ll be off then anyway, sedated and having a camera up my bum! Went home via mums to collect her homemade soup ready for bowel prep tomorrow (Recipe from Mum Below). I’m so glad she invested in a soup maker, things don’t get the chance to burn in there, although I sometimes miss the singed flavours of my childhood.

Chicken and Vegetable Bone Broth Soup (Great for digestion, inflammation and gut health):
I make my own bone broth my putting cooked chicken carcass in slow cooker with some celery, on low, for 48 hours (or you can simmer on stove for 24 hours but check fluid levels)
To make soup simply add broth to a pan (or soup maker) and add chopped onion, carrots, sweet potato, handful of fresh basil and handful of fresh coriander, salt, pepper and paprika to taste. If cooking on stove then just cook until veggies are soft, whizz up and enjoy. (If you need completely clear soup prior to your procedure then just remove the vegetables and enjoy the liquid). Better still add them all to the broth making process and just strain the broth.
1999: Up bright and early at 6.30. Mummy took me to Nanny’s at 7.45 as she’s going to a party in the park in London. I don’t think it’s at all fair. Everyone knows parties are for children and my mummy is leaving me behind! I did get to spend the day with daddy though; Grandma picked me up from Nan’s at 11.30. I fell asleep before we left, but apparently daddy took me back to Nanny’s
2019: Rang mum yesterday to ask her to make some lactose and gluten free cakes for todays cake sale and also through a vegan challenge into the mix. She actually succeed to make banana muffins which went down a treat and I got the recipe from her below.
Absolutely smashed the cake sale today raising £115 towards Crohn’s and Colitis and my Mountain time trial and Aviva have matched this! With 3 weeks to go I need to stop eating cake and get to the gym.
Banana Vegan Muffins – Lactose, and Gluten Free:
Mix 1 1/4 cups of gluten free flour with teaspoon xanthan gum (check vegan), and sodium biocarb, sprinkle of salt and 2/3 cup of sugar (or substitute).
Add 1/2 cup of warmed olive oil, two very ripe mash bananas and teaspoon apple cider vinegar with mum and mix well.
Dissolve teaspoon coffee in 1/4 cup boiling water and add to the mix gradually until at consistency. I actually weighed these today to get them even – 34g = 19 cakes. Cook for 15 minutes in pre-heated oven at 180c

1999: Got put back in my own bed 3 times tonight, but I won in the end. She’s just far too drowsy for a showdown in the middle of the night. It’s lovely and hot today. I played in the garden while mum made sandwiches and off we went to Marsh Farm. We arrived so early that I got to drive round the car park twice sat on mums lap. We spent 3 hours at the farm and had our photo taken on a cool postcard Machine. Once home, I played in the garden – shouting at Emma through our peep holes in the fence. We went to see Nanny and Pa and Pa has bought a cricket set for our holiday and a new bedtime story book for me (if I can get it off mum that is). We played in the garden and I shouted really loudly at a barking dog – “shut up dog”. Nanny says now she really knows how I get spoken to at home (although I must say mum has never called me ‘dog’). Mum assured her that it is only during times of severe trauma, but I would like to point out that this is her trauma and not mine – I’m absolutely fine
2019: Never was a good sleeper. Still struggle now. Mind whizzing at 100 mile an hour, or stomach cramps from wind and crohns! But once I’m asleep – it can be like waking a rock and apparently my snores are loud enough to shake a mountain. Talking of which, meeting at work today to discuss my fundraising event in support of my mount Snowdon run in July for @crohnsandcolitis.uk. Aviva are being very supportive and we are going to fund raise for 3 days at beginning of July including a cake sale. Mum offered to make some gluten and lactose free muffins but Mark pointed out I needed to sell these not give them away!

1999: Mum’s feeling a bit worse for wear this morning, so she lay on the settee and I let rip in the lounge. She let me have my last Easter egg for breakfast – well it is Saturday, and mine lasted longer than hers did! I got dressed and went to play in the garden and oops! – made a mess of my pants. I ended up in the bath, which I didn’t consider very fair as I’d only just got dressed, and needed an afternoon nap. We had a joint dinner and lunch at 3.00 and then walked to town to buy some milk and ‘duice’. I also got a packet of wine gums (named after me apparently) and we sat on the wall watching the boys on their skateboards. I walked nearly all the way back but had to have a piggy back some of the way (which I thought was great fun but mum didn’t seem so keen). I played in the garden and I got extremely muddy as mum was washing all my garden toys and I was helping. Our nicely mown grass is now a mudslide. Yippee! Watched Lion King again tonight – the things I have to do to keep mum amused
2019: Mum came round for dinner tonight but I forgot that the sausages weren’t gluten free so I cooked the chops she had to pop to the shops to buy. Made the mistake of telling her my Crohn’s is really playing up (like she didn’t know anyway) and so ensued the “make sure you go to your appointment”/ “I will if I’m not working”/”Well you wont be working if your back in hospital” conversation! My bad ………. Still. I ended it b putting Ant-Man on. Still having to entertain her.
