December 26th – Happy Boxing/Fight Day

1999: I wanted to do some drawing so mummy set my little table up and I drew pictures whilst munching ½ tube of Jelly Tots.  Then we went down for tea and milk and I played with my lorry, car, alarm clock and harmonica.  We drove to nanny and Pa’s and then mummy and I went on a big, big bike ride.  Mummy peddled, whilst I sat on the back and serenaded her and the town with my harmonica.  I talked to everyone we saw and said “hello” to all the doggies as mum peddled by.  When we were nearing Nanny’s mummy said she was worn out and I said, “I’m worn out too”.  For some reason mum thought this was very funny but it’s hard work riding pillion and playing music you know.  After a quick cuppa we got back in the car and went home to make Tubbie cookies and then mum put her computer on the dining table, but that’s as far as we got.  We had a bath and got togged up and then we went to Nanny’s – again to see Aunty Esa, Dandell, Dessica and their family. We stayed for dinner and played some games but people don’t seem so interested in a nearly 3 year old and I seemed to get in the way quite a bit.  The girls great granny took me under her wing though and mum was fairly reasonable.  We stayed at Nanny’s until late at night and I didn’t want to go home but mummy said she did and she looked near to tears so I got my wellies, sat down and put them on.  We said our goodbyes and off we set.

2019:  Kings Lynn football ground today – not the pleasure that Norwich was. KL V Boston. They had stollen snooker/pool balls from a local pub nd were throwing them at each other, Stab vest didn’t help as got a bottle thrown at the back of my head, there were 10 of us, hundreds of them and the police just stood in a huddle in the corner. Have told them I will not be working that fixture again. Absolute nightmare. Happy Boxing Day. Luckily nighttime gig was cancelled so I could catch up with Zof and her family 😀

December 21st – Counting the Days

1999: Up for a wee and a drink at half five and settled back down until seven when I discovered mum was in the bath.  I jumped in after her.  Mummy said it was 1,2,3,4 days until Father Christmas.  I got some more presents at Deedons though, but I didn’t unwrap them – well until mummy came to get me anyway.  Then I opened two but stopped at the tube of sweets and then I munched instead.  Home via the lights and Sabre and I was so tired I didn’t want any tea and was a bit horrible to mummy.  I refused to say sorry which resulted in me going to bed at 6.  I decided to say sorry then but apparently it was too late.

2019: Well it’s still 4 days to Christmas and not a thing done yet! Security at Norwich football ground today which was a pleasure apart from one elderly ‘gent’ who gave us a lot of abuse just for being there – in front of his grandkids!) Quick nap this evening and then off to work another door in Norwich.

July 28th – Vocalising Celebrations

1999   Impressed mum as I came into her room this morning and said “can I have” but needed help with the “a drink please” bit.  Mum thought I was very clever and said it was far nicer than the “dink” I usually holler in her ear.  That’s as may be, but it’s much harder work if you ask me.  I mean, why use all those words when you can get the same result just using one?  Adults!  I’ll never understand them.  Found the camera on the lounge floor this morning and   took several photos of the telly, the carpet, the curtain, my foot etc.  Should look good when the films developed (nice surprise for mum anyhow). Went to Edons and then Nanny’s today.  The sun was shining and I played in the garden all day. Nanny gave me a new shirt from Uncle Teddy – a Southend United one!   I was very tired tonight which resulted in tantrums; largely because mummy pulled the plug out of the bath just because I slapped her!  I was back home and in bed by seven and asleep two minutes later.

2019: Long drive back from Wales to Beccles today, made worse by an hour and a half jam on the A14. Legs are pretty wobbly from yesterdays run but I’m happy I did the run and am also celebrating one year with Zof today! She has stuck by me (even holding my hand in hospital after surgery and looking after me when I was discharged at the beginning of July when we were just friends). She has inspired me, encouraged me, helped me,  filled me with confidence and let me be me. Looking forwards to many more years together.

July 21st – Meals Al Fresco

1999:  When mummy dropped me off at Edons she realised she had forgotten my medicine but she waved me goodbye regardless!  10 minutes later Edons phone rang and after this she went to the door to find my medicine had magicked onto her doorstep.  Wow!  Edon bought Jake and me a big balloon each at Asda today and we actually managed to get them home in one piece. Mummy picked me up at five – complete with a savaloy which I’d demolished before we got home.  When we got there we had chips and pickled onions too.  Think this is mums version of a posh two course meal!  No sorry it’s going to be three – we made gingerbread men – slightly singed ones.  Mum thought I was too busy washing up to notice but I’m not daft I know what that icing stuff is all about – disguise!

2019: Met Mum and mark at nan and Pa’s today for a BBQ with Uncle Terry, Aunty Dee and cousin  Beau.  Dee likes her BBQ burnt and I voiced to all that she’d be alright round Mums. Beau, Zof and I played footy in the garden ….. until the ball went over the fence (in my defence it is a low one). On our way home we dropped Terry at Lattitude festival for a gig and then headed home to bed.

June 24th – Football and Results

1999;  Weather not so hot today so I was back in trousers. After Edons I played in the garden and watered the plants.  I had crisps, strawberries and melon for tea (hardly cordon bleu but I enjoyed it).  I watched mum peel off the melon skin with her knife and then copied her with my own plastic one but it looked much easier than it was.  Mum and I played football.  I’m getting quite good at scoring goals but mummy has to play goal scoring too, to my “ready, steady, go”.   I had such fun that I refused to come in for a bath and after many hysterics and tantrums; I ended up in bed at 6.30.  What ever happened to free expression?  We did have a cuddle and a story though.  We had ‘Peepo’ for the first time in a couple of weeks and I knew most of the words.  I wasn’t to be defeated though and stayed awake until 8.45, following a bottom shower at eight due to the poo factor.

2019: Continuing on the bum theme – mum rang hospital today and they cannot see an appointment with IBD nurse and they are not sure what’s happening with my colonoscopy re-schedule or the barium I was supposed to have after my early year check up. On the flip side, she has managed to get me an appointment with the IBD nurse on Thursday – Result!

April 7th – Lost Balls and Parties

1999:  Up at 6 this morning, with the alarm.  Mum wasn’t in a very good mood, especially when I started whining in the bath.  Just to complete the start to her day I cried when she left me at Edon’s.  Nan picked me up later on in the morning and Pa and Bomps were home too. Uncle Teddy came round and we watched him on video doing a comedy routine.  I wasn’t to be upstaged though and started mimicking his act.  Later we played football ,  until Teddy lost the ball over the fence!  Some things never change according to Nan!

2019:  Urggh! Don’t know what time I got up today. In fact, I don’t think we fully did. Great house warming party last night but I’m beginning to wonder why I actually came home and did the housework yesterday and why I didn’t listen to mum about the alcohol

January 29th – Potty Training and Rugby

1999:  Apparently mummy didn’t go to bed until midnight last night and awoke at 2 o’clock to hear me calling ‘Mum, Mum’.  She found me on the floor between her bed and her chest of drawers.  I’d sneaked in but then fallen out again!  I woke up at 8, in mummy’s bed, but no mum.  She must be up before me again.  I called her and she called back, I followed the sound of her voice only to find her tucked up in my bed.  Bonus!  Mum’s not going to work today as she’s not feeling well – she did have a late night after all.  We had a lazy, relaxing morning with lots of cups of tea.  Mum lay on the settee and I was really good, although I think she tended to find my continual ‘No’ a bit annoying.  Well she’s ill; I’m only giving her a bit of her own medicine.  Mum decided to go and have a relaxing bath, which she had, with one addition – me.  I thought I’d give mum a rest beings she’s poorly and had an afternoon nap.  I even got her out of the house this afternoon – I woke up soaked and so did the bed, and so we spent the rest of the afternoon at the launderette.

2019: Another day working whilst mum continues to rest in Lincolnshire.  Apparently today she bumped into the mum of an old school and football friend. Yes I played football but much preferred my rugby, playing wing and fullback for Boston for several years and training with Leicester Tigers  who mum follows to this day. We also had training with Southern Hemisphere coaches and learnt the Hacker which was awesome. Unfortunately, I had to give up rugby aged 15 due to two airlifts, hyper flexibility and no longer wanting the pain but it still calls me …….
