February 18th -Workout

1999:   Awoke at 6, prodding mum and whispering her name.  She kept telling me it was the middle of the night and that I should ‘go back to sleep’, but I didn’t.  The alarm eventually went off  and feeling bored now I shot up, turned off the alarm and put the radio on.  There’s no way she’s snoozing today, I’m wide awake.  I spent the day at Nan’s today.  We went for a walk over the town; I pushed my buggy the whole way there but managed to hitch a ride back.  Mum didn’t get in until 7 tonight and when she finally arrived to pick me up we had to go straight home.  I took a chocolate mousse with me which I was insistent on eating with mummy’s keys (she can’t drive then, we get to stay longer), but Nan persuaded me to use my fingers instead.  I don’t know if they were any cleaner than the keys to start with, but they were in a wonderful mess by the time I’d finished. When we got home we had to empty mums bedroom of all her furniture and later Dev arrived to lay her carpet.  I was a great help of course. At least that’s one roll of carpet gone.

2019:  So this morning  work wanted me to go painting in my car. Yeah right. Then they said I could do lofts – without ladders. So I spent the day job hunting and filling in load of applications for factories, building and support worker. Need a job. Need my flat.

February 14th Valentines Day

1999:  Daddy’s today.  I arrived back home at 5 and Granddad told mummy I had been a good boy and had fun.  I had seen all my cousins and my Aunties too.  When I got into the car to come home I had fallen asleep, mummy carried me indoors in my car seat, but when she took my hat and coat off I woke up.  Big smiles, we were glad to see one another and had big hugs and big cups of tea too. I had had dinner at daddy’s but Pa had made mummy a chicken roast and so naturally I helped her eat it, especially the afters which was bread and butter pudding.  Well there’s only one great dinner in the world and that’s the one on your mum’s plate!  I asked mum, by pointing at the telly and saying ‘rar’ if we could put the Lion King on (she’s catching onto the English language pretty fast for a mother) and we sat and watched it – we even sang and danced to some of it too but Mum had to go out of the room when the daddy lion died though – she finds it far too sad!  You’d think she’d be used to it by now – he dies fairly often after all.

2019:  Valentines day. Zof came over tonight. I had a box of prezzies on the bed for her surrounded by rose petals and I cooked dinner. Such a romantic – unlike Mark who gave mum a card telling her to relax and not worry about the housework as it would still be there tomorrow! He did take her out to dinner though.

And Mum still has to go out of the room when the Daddy Lion dies in Lion King. She had a struggle a couple of years ago when we went to see the show in London though. I think she just shut her eyes!

February 12th – More Work

1999: Edons this morning and Nanny’s at lunch time.  I was insistent that I wanted to take my bike to Nanny’s today so we stopped on the way to drop off the bike for later.  I wanted to stay at Nanny’s, but as soon as I realised mummy wasn’t staying I wanted to go to Edons.  Once at Edons, I wanted to go back to Nanny’s but apparently there was ‘no way’.  In I went and off she went to work.

2019: Went over to Zof’s last night and took her to work this morning. Looked after Zof’s sister today as she was off from school poorly, picked her brother up from school and Zof from work. Funnily enough mum sent me some driving and care jobs today.

February 11th Work Work Work

1999:  Mum came to get me at midnight as I was crying and took me into her bed. It wasn’t the best of nights but we got through it.  The end result was – we overslept.  I was a bit reluctant to let mum go today even with Edons temptation of toddler club this morning – but go she did, with excuses that she was going to be late for that work thing again.  What the hell is that anyway?  It must be something that’s more fun than me, she goes there so often that I guess it must be.  After tea tonight mum finished off my hair and it now looks neat.

2019: Well I attempted to leave for work at 7am only to find my car stuck in the mud which I could swear was grass when I parked it on the garden last night. This is my new way of getting mum up – she was trying to help but nothing would shift it. I’d dropped the work van off elsewhere yesterday so couldn’t get into work,. When I rang they advised they were having a reshuffle and I could take the week of. Great today but not Friday week when I don’t get any pay

January 28th – Small Holdings

1999:  What’s going on?!  Mummy was up and dressed before me this morning. Is she getting organized or am I just getting lazy? At least she’s starting to get a bit of autonomy at last. Oh well, it will soon be the weekend! I had my milk and then a big cuddle, it wasn’t until she put me back down that she realised that I was wet and so were her work clothes.  Oops!  Well, I would have told her if only she’d asked. I don’t know why mum bothers with this work thing – she always looks so stressed by the time she goes.  We had pasta for tea tonight with bacon and tomato pasta sauce and mummy said we could be naughty and sit on the settee to eat.  I decided to put mine on my toy cooker and eat it.  Then I put it on the arm of the settee.  And then on the settee. And then on the floor.  Mummy didn’t seem to think this was such a good idea.  I don’t know, I think the orange patches add interest to the furnishings.  Later on I brought mummy a plastic plate from my cooker – she picked up pieces, put them in her mouth and said ‘Mm, tasty’.  I don’t know, she must be hallucinating or something – it was just an empty plate really, but I played along and did the same.  The things you have to do to keep these adults amused.

2019: I love to cook pasta. Maybe to show mum how it should be done – al dente, not burnt but still like to leave my mark and mess around the house. Cooked tonight as mum has gone to visit her friend Joy in Lincolnshire. We lived there from when I was 4 – 13  in a really old bungalow with an acre of land – hence the motorbikes that I used to love to ride. We renovated the property and I remember having to jump form rug to mat over concrete floors. But my best memories, apart from the bikes, is collecting fresh eggs from the chucks, digging up fresh potatoes for dinner and our goats Molly and Golly which we never even attempted to milk!

January 26th – Boys Toys and Games

1999:  I got mum a cracker this morning – I fell over in my bedroom, mum asked if I was okay and I said ‘yes’, but she noticed my nose was running and went off to get some tissue.  I followed mummy into the bathroom and held out my hand and she thought I’d hurt it.  Mummy kissed it better not realising until that point that I was actually holding out my hand to show her that I’d been very grown up and wiped my own nose with it!  I found her facial contortions highly amusing and now keep giving her ‘presents’ but she hasn’t fallen for it again.  We went to Donals tonight as promised but it was a bit of a let-down as they had run out of boxes and decent toys.  So much for a happy meal – it didn’t make me very happy and I hardly touched any of my chicken nuggets (loodaloo) or chips.  Well it’s not the same without the box is it?!  On the way home we called in to see Dev who found me an excellent motorbike alarm clock.  I loved it so much he said I could keep it.  I was chuffed but mum didn’t seem so pleased.  I think it’s really cool – it revs up and makes real bike sounds and it’s really loud.  I played with it all night and on the way home I fell asleep with it on.  Every time mummy stopped the car and turned it off, I woke up and turned it back on again.  Mum, its soothing okay?

2019: Morning at the beauty parlour waiting for Zof to get her eyelash extensions done and then off to Cirque in London. A very messy night but a great post birthday celebration. I have since had 3 real motorbikes – one when I was 5 and one when I was 6. These faired far better than my first on road bike that I paid £1100 for and blew it up within a month. Got my car for now but one day ………

January 19th -Gotta Love The Bucket List Chips

1999:   Once again I lay in bed listening to that old snooze button being bashed over the head.  Mum eventually turned it off at seven and I think she was actually planning to ring work and claim that her alarm hadn’t gone off (well it wouldn’t be surprising really; she’s so mean to it).  To ensure mummy didn’t oversleep, I got up and requested my milk, when she tumbled out of bed and duly got this for me.  Whilst mummy was getting ready for work, I wrecked the upstairs.  Never mind, mummy can tidy it all up again tonight.  I especially had fun with the cotton wool pads, which are now in pieces.

When mummy picked me up tonight, she knew straight away that I hadn’t slept (is there nothing you can keep from your mum?).  She said I looked awful (charming) and I was also very tearful and cried most of the way home. (Oh right.  So like she wouldn’t get upset if someone greeted her with “you look awful”; I may be a kid but I have feelings too you know).  We went to Karen’s tonight and I fell asleep on the way at 5.30.  I apparently carried on sleeping on her settee, through a bum change and change of clothes, a car journey home and a transfer to bed.  I don’t think mummy will be needing the alarm clock tomorrow morning, I just hope she doesn’t think I’ve got a snooze button.  The one saving grace is at least I’m a moving target!

2019: Saturday lie in but not a long one. Day off and want to go out. Took mum and Zof to Cromer via the coast road (mum had to take her hearing aids out for some reason – Its NOT LOUD!) and had BBQ, Mozzarella and Aoili chips from The Bucket List. Had hot chocolate overlooking the sea from the Red Lion Hotel and then headed home as it was bloomin freezing. Bourne Sesh this afternoon and cooked duck in plum sauce for tea (Marco Polo)
