June 11th – What’s with the Name?

1999: Had a much better night and slept right through until six.  Mum got up at 6.45 and found me looking through my diary.  It makes very interesting reading even if I do say so myself.  I got into mums bath water (and had another bath tonight – better start using oil of Ulay on me mum or I’m going to look like a prune before I reach my teenage years). Mum picked me up from Edons at five, with a report of lots of crying in the last hour and a bundle of wet clothes.  I opted to eat my tea on my beanbag but the bowl was hot on my leg so mummy put a towel underneath.  Later when she was drinking a hot cup of tea I did the same for her.  Aren’t I cute?!  I fell asleep on the settee with milk and watching Mr. Benn.

2019: Well apparently it ‘s Oil of Olay now due to previously different names around the world and wanting to give it a global name. Proctor and Gamble changed it in 1999 but it German speaking regions it remains as Olaz and apparently, in Hong Kong it is called oil of Ulan and Ulay/Olay sounds very similar to a Cantonese expletive! And I’m sure we would not have been able to get that information as quickly as I did today, back in 1999! And yes – I do use it! And I used to eat Snickers (Marathon) until nuts played with my guts and I still eat Star Burst (Opal Fruits)

I may do stupid things and make light of them but deep down there’s a reason and I love exploration, even if I cannot fully understand the outcome!
